Planning a master bathroom remodel anytime soon?
Houzz just released its 2020 U.S. Houzz Bathroom Trends Study, giving some insight into what’s hot and what’s not for the remainder of 2020 and looking forward into 2021. Want to take a peek? Reef Builders shares 5 of the key insights below for your next remodel or new build near me in Phoenix, Arizona:
“Modern” the Top Style of Bathroom Remodelers
A key takeaway from the survey: the modern style is now the top choice for bathroom remodelers. This is up from last year, when transitional was the number one choice. In general for 2020, the top 3 style choices are all reflective of homeowners wanting a sleeker, spa-like feel in their master suite, with modern carrying the lead at 20%, and then transitional and contemporary both following closely behind at 18%. Traditional and farmhouse styles both remained at the bottom of the list and dropped further in share from 2019, at 12% and 5% respectively.
Rest & Relaxation are Key
Sure, the bathroom is a place for getting dressed and out the door, but for many, it’s also a place of relaxation and rest. In fact, nearly half the respondents (41%) mentioned this as a key benefit they wanted to achieve in their bathroom remodel. And what’s better for relaxing than a soaking tub? Look for soaking tubs to be focal points in bathrooms over the next year, as 55% of the renovators surveyed said soaking tubs were a way that they are able to relax.
Showers Need an Accent Wall
Just over a third of respondents cited including an accent wall in their master shower, showing the importance and popularity of this feature. Most homeowners cared most about the material used for that accent wall in terms of making it “pop” (51%), while other factors included color, pattern, and texture. Homeowners still prefer white in the bathroom and shower, but blue and multi-colored accents showed a rise in popularity.
Don’t Underestimate the Power of Light
A top complaint of many homeowners looking to remodel is lack of sufficient lighting in the bathroom (29%), with the issue of no natural light also being a concern (10%). Top choices to remedy these issues? Dimmable switches or bulbs, LED lighting, and mood lighting.
Homeowners Desire High-Tech Features
A room once marked by simplicity is becoming more and more high-tech. Want to incorporate high-tech features but not sure where? Almost half of homeowners reported to using faucets with high-tech features, followed by 34% purchasing toilets with high-tech features. Top features for toilets included a bidet, heated seat, self-cleaning, and overflow protection.
