As 2020 comes to a close, now is the time that we begin looking to the new year. What design trends have staying power? Which ones are on the way out?
When designing a kitchen, you want to be able to enjoy that design for years to come without it looking dated. Here are 4 kitchen design trends our team at Reef Builders – your source for custom home building and kitchen remodeling services in Phoenix, AZ - expects to see in 2021:
A Quest for Warmth
2020 has brought about a year when we’ve all spent more time at home. We have a greater appreciation for all that home stands for. In that same vein, we are seeing a trend toward more warmth in the home – and this applies to kitchens too. Expect to see more warm tones creep into the kitchen, along with woods and vintage mixed with modern. Reclaimed wood is hot right now and can add a touch of warmth and character to any kitchen design. We love when it’s balanced with delicate whites and understated backsplashes.
Multi-level Islands
With homeowners still wanting an open concept – but maybe using their kitchen space for more than ever before – we are seeing a trend toward more multi-level islands. Plus – these multi-level islands offer visual barriers between kitchen clutter and adjoining rooms, something that can be frustrating to see when are spending more time in the home. Large, expansive islands will always be on-trend, but expect to see more variations in height that offer seating and prep spaces as well.
Less Open Shelving
Open shelving has become popular with the rise of farmhouse home styles. And while we love open shelves that offer a great way to display accent pieces, sometimes these shelves can collect dust and clutter. When doing our kitchen remodeling services in Phoenix, AZ, we expect to see more wall-to-wall cabinetry that provides clever and functional storage for all of your kitchen supplies. For new custom homes, adding a large butler’s pantry or prep kitchen to the home allows for this storage but gives more opportunity for decorative open shelving.
Quartz
Quartz is as popular as ever, and it’s easy to understand why. This beautiful surface comes in many styles and varieties and lends the warmth of natural stones without the maintenance. The durability of quartz is one of the #1 reasons we consistently recommend it to clients. We are often seeing quartz that looks like marble in new custom kitchens, along with solid white and even darker grey and black alternatives.
